The lovely Letty will be at the bookshop on Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. to help us find our inner chefs, and, failing that, she’s bringing Linzer Heart Cookies. Linzer Heart Cookies for YOU. Need we say more?
YUM! Letty Flatt on Sat., 2/12! Chocolate Snowball!
I haven’t gotten a thing done this afternoon because I’ve been looking at Letty Halloran Flatt’s Chocolate Snowball cookbook, filled with recipes made famous by Deer Valley Resort, and I can’t seem to put it down. It’s gorgeous, the kind of cookbook that makes you forget everything you’re doing in favor of running to the grocery store to find ingredients for Potato Focaccia with Red Onion and Basil, or Cinnamon Ice Cream, which you could probably make without having to leave the house, or Chocolate and Blueberry Bread Pudding, YUM! And the famous Chocolate Snowball, of course. I dare you to look at these photographs and keep your stomach from rumbling. There are cool techniques in the margins of every page, and quirky little pieces of cooking history, and things that are just important to know, like the fact that tiramisù translates as “pick-me-up.” Of course it does. She tells you how to toast pecans, the secret to peeling peaches, and there are all sorts of timing tricks that will save you from yourself. There’s even a recipe for skiing.
