Congratulations go out this week to winners of the Utah Book Award and the Utah Arts Council Writing Contest. The Utah Book Award was established to honor outstanding achievements by Utah writers and to recognize books written with a Utah theme or setting. In fiction the award went to Rae Meadows for her novel, Calling Out. She visited us last year when the book debuted and we wish her well in her future writing. Pastor France Davis and Nayra Atiya won the nonfiction award for France Davis: An American Story Told. Published by the University of Utah Press, we love this memoir of Pastor Davis’ early childhood, young adulthood and move to Utah. His beloved Calvary Baptist Church is a force for good in Salt Lake City.
Here is a list of all of the talented winners of the Utah Arts Council 2007 writing contest. We want to give a special shout out to two former TKE booksellers: Lynn Kilpatrick won first place for her short story “What Idaho Offers” and Steve Tuttle took second place for his short story, “Amanuensis”. Steve also won for his story collection, “Undone by the Moon”.
