To ring out November, we had two travel writers in two nights — Brandon Griggs with his book Utah Curiosities, and Patricia Schultz with 1,000 Places to See in the U.S. and Canada Before You Die.
Brandon, The Salt Lake Tribune’s Culture Vulture, was here last Thursday night, November 29th. It was a great turn-out (unsurprising, since he’s a local celebrity) and a lot of fun — people talking about the places in the book that they’d been, places they hadn’t been, and places they didn’t even know existed. Since we’re pretty sure that half the country isn’t positive that Utah really exists, we’re proud of Brandon and his book — conclusively proving once and for all that not only is Utah real, but interesting as well!
Patricia, who really needs no introduction, was here on Friday, November 30th. She’s a gracious and funny lady, and I think it’s fair to say that everyone who stopped by got not only her signature, but advice and anecdotes on any place they mentioned. No, really. I overheard conversations about Dubai, the Dominican Republic, and the Abruzz0 region of Italy, to name just a few. Detailed conversations! And then, of course, there was all the talk about the places she’s written up for the new guide in the U.S. and Canada. Even if someone mentioned a locale that wasn’t in the book, she either had been there or knew all about it. Patricia Schultz is my new hero. One day, I will go exploring — and when I do, I will be taking her books with me!
