It’s National Poetry Month! Woo! And the fun has only just barely begun here at TKE. In two days (count ’em!) we’re having our Poetry Storytime (poetry lovers of all ages welcome, because as we all know, Jack Prelutsky is not just for tots), Thursday April 17th at 11 a.m. We love storytime here at TKE, and to my knowledge (which is, admittedly, limited) we’ve never done a Poetry themed one before. History in the making, my friends, history in the making!
And then, the event that I AM SO JAZZED to be inaugurating, it’s the one and only TKE 1st Annual Poetry Open Mic (PōM) Competition, Friday April 25th at 6 p.m.! We’ll be out on the patio (as long as it doesn’t rain), so bring your jackets and your favorite piece of poetry. The first round will be open to all comers, all poets (translation: you can read Shakespeare, Mary Oliver, or the Tupac lyrics that changed your life); the second round is original work only. Our judges will award points, with the highest total for each round receiving a $25 gift certificate to the store! I have been reliably informed that not only is this more money than most poets make in a lifetime, but that it is also more than the Bstore gives for its poetry open mics. Who loves poetry? It’s us!
