Author Update | Maggie Stevens and Terrell Dougan

This week, TKE customers were treated to two great authors in for two very different books.

On Tuesday the 6th, Maggie Stevens presented and signed her parenting book ParentFix. She’s a homegrown expert, having raised five kids, and had a lot of great tips and interesting points to share with the audience — who, despite the snowstorm, were an enthusiastic and lovely bunch of (you guessed it) parents! We talked about everything from potty training to teens taking the car (which led into a whole side-discussion on grounding and its efficacy). If you have kids, I definitely recommend checking out the book and the website, We’ll be having Maggie back in the summer, but if you can’t wait till then to get some great parenting advice, come grab a copy!

Then on Thursday the 8th, we helped Terrell Dougan launch her fantastic memoir That Went Well. Terrell is a force of nature here in Salt Lake, and a long-time friend of the store, so we were delighted to host her. And what a night it was! I stopped counting at 120 — we packed the (still under construction but getting closer every day) Framery next door with a little creative decorating, chair arranging, and lighting.

Terrell not only read from the book, but told us some unpublished anecdotes about growing up with her brain-damaged sister Irene. Then, both she and Irene took questions. We quite literally laughed and cried our way through the reading, then went back to the bookstore for some champagne and nibbles.

All in all, it was the perfect way to start 2009. Thanks to all who came out this week for celebrating with us! And, despite the ongoing economic troubles, I have the feeling that this is going to be a banner year for us. It might have something to do with the upcoming author list
