Local author and mother Leeann Whiffen, whose son Clay had SB43 named for him in the recent legislative session, will present her memoir A Child’s Journey Out of Autism at The King’s English Bookshop on Friday, April 3, at 7 p.m.
At two years old, Clay was diagnosed with Autism, and the Whiffen family’s world was turned upside down. The Whiffens tried every treatment they could afford, and many that they couldn’t, mortgaging their lives and savings on treatments they weren’t even sure could help. But today, Clay Whiffen is eight years old and medically certified as completely off the Autism spectrum. A Child’s Journey Out of Autism is a message of hope for the multitude of families with autistic members–that are not rich or famous–and that persevere daily to help their autistic loved ones.
