Kilpatrick’s in the House!

The gang was all here to celebrate our friend, former bookseller, teacher, and all around wonderful person, Lynn Kilpatrick and the debut of her book of fiction, In the House. So many familiar faces from this particular “class” of grad students from the University of Utah were with us to toast Lynn’s success that there weren’t enough chairs to seat everyone.

They’ve stuck together over the years and support each other and the bookstore and we’re so proud to know all of them. In the House is a study in structure and in character.

You can pick it up and read a single story or you can read only the dioramas in straight succession. I read the entire book in one sitting and am still haunted by the characters, by each tale, and by the aggregate effects of all the stories taken together. Regardless of how you approach this collection, you will want to return to it again and again and consider the characters you meet there. They are not easy people to know or understand and they are not easily forgotten. Congrats Lynn! We can’t wait to see what’s next.
